A team from Laval University in Quebec has discovered compelling evidence that replacing just two tablespoons of refined sugar with pure maple syrup could significantly reduce several key risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. Ingredients 2 Cups of Mixed Nuts. Any type of nut is ok, we like almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, and pistachios. You can make mixed batches or a patch of all one type like cashews. 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup (I like amber but if you want a stronger maple flavor try dark maple syrup). Directions Roasted Nuts - Spread 2 cups of mixed nuts on a shallow cookie sheets. Place in oven at 350 deg F and roast for 12-15 minutes. Jericho Center Country Store - Vermont's Longest Running Store
Jericho Center has a classic Vermont village green, lined with massive ancient sugar maple trees. Across the green the Jericho Center Country Store has been in operation since 1807. Over the years the store served as a community meeting place to share news and gossip and offered a wide variety of everyday and eclectic goods for sale. Today it mainly sells food products, including Barred Woods Maple.
Local Vermonter Competes in Paris Olympics
Elle Purrier St. Pierre from Montgomery Vermont (a few miles down the road from our sugarhouse) made it through the quarter finals and the semifinals and finished 8th overall in the woman's 1500 meters at the Paris Olympics. Ellie has deep ties to rural Vermont farming and maple sugaring and and we are so proud of her representing us at the Olympics.
