Our Town - Belvidere Vermont
Our main sugarbush is located in Belvidere Vermont, a small rural town with a lot of history. Vermont Public Radio recently featured a fascinating audio episode on the history of our town.
What's in your forest?
We are fortunate that our sugarbush and sugarhouse are situated right smack in the midst of an important northeast wildlife corridor. Up in our woods we've had several sightings of deer, bear, porcupine and even moose. Of course most wildlife sees us first and stay hidden, leaving us to only wonder about all of the shenanigans that occur in our 'quiet' sanctuary. to satisfy our curiosity, we're starting to monitor with game cams. we'll share a few of our most recent favorite clips. Into the Woods with Bird-Friendly Maple
On June 07, 2025 Barred Woods Maple partnered with Audubon Vermont and the Vermont Land Trust to offer an exciting program focused on creating bird-friendly habitat in Vermont maple sugarbushes. The event consisted of banding migratory birds for tracking and research, a discussion of habitat requirements of these birds, and a tour of Barred Woods Maple sugarbush to see first-hand, forestry practices that have been implemented to improve the habitat for migratory songbirds while at the same time improving the maple syrup production of the forest. Barred Woods Maple Awarded USDA Grant to Expand Food Processing Facility
We’re honored to share that Barred Woods Maple has been awarded an infrastructure grant through the USDA’s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program, administered by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets. This national initiative supports local and regional food systems across the United States by investing in critical infrastructure for food producers, processors, and distributors. This support will help us build a 6,000-square-foot commercial food processing facility in Belvidere, Vermont along side of our existing maple sugarhouse.
